Project Notch - The Conversion.

I pulled both motors and sat them side by side to compare what I would need to keep from the old motor to make the new one fit properly. Working in my favor was Ford had done very little on external changes to the basic 2.3L engine block design. Motor mounts where a direct change over.

79 automatic transmission

My GF didn't want a manual transmission and since the truck transmission was gone and the automatic from the car worked fine I pulled the flywheel off the truck motor and attached the flex plate to it for the automatic. I did have some concerns that it might not work properly balance wise, but once the car was running it worked smoothly.

Dropping the new engine in.

Once the transmission was attached it was time to drop it into place. As you can see in these pictures a nice touch was added to the car. I had the old wheels from my brothers 1982 GT that I kept from my 80 Capri, yes I'm a FOX Body parts horder. IMHO these helped dress the car up quite a lot.

With the engine set in place I turned my attention to the front brakes while we had to wait and hunt down a new fuel tank and other parts.

Bad rotor!

For the brakes we found an 81 or 82 Mustang GLX notch that was being parted out, it had the larger 10" front brakes. So we got the rotors, calipers and spindles off of that car.

You can see here the damage to the only working front brake on the car. Also is the side by side comparison with the larger rotor.
